5 Easy Decor Ideas for Spring and Summer

Spring and summer are all about relaxing and enjoying the seasons. From cooling interior color palettes to opting for casual interiors over the stuffy formal ones, spring and summer decor ideas are easy.  Do you have a summer beach house, or would you like your apartment to FEEL like a summer beach house? Either way, the warm outdoors and cool evening breezes make your home the optimal place to entertain and relax. Try these easy spring/summer decor ideas and take advantage of all that the seasons have to offer.

FURNITURE: Dark and muted tones are perfect for fall and winter, but spring and summer scream for light and airy colors.  Use removable slipcovers, or decorative throws to bring bursts of color and brightness. Prefer whites and neutrals? White and khaki slipcovers are casual but can be dressed up with formal throw pillows in an instant.

DRAPERY: When you want to bring in the cool night air, and keep out the hot summer sun use curtains instead of drapery. Drapery material is heavy and dark, while curtains paired with sheers can give you versatile flexibility in the spring and summer months. If you prefer to savor the views, and not cover up the windows use valances. Valances in light textures and colors will leave your windows looking finished, with an obstructed view.

VIEWS: What better way to welcome spring into your home, than looking at a breathtaking view? Maximize your furniture placement by facing it towards your ocean view, pool, or lush green yard. Your enjoyment of your home is based on your emotions. If opening windows to hear nature makes you feel good, do it!  Don’t love the view from your windows? Consider buying a painting or wall decor that you love the look and feel of.

KID FRIENDLY: Let’s face it, kids are out of school and summer means kids around the house! Make sure fabrics and slipcovers are machine washable, and are casual and fun! Make summertime arts and crafts projects with seashells, pine cones, and nature inspired finds, which the kids can pick out. Their projects can turn into summer decor that you display proudly around your home!

From spring to summer, the decor is all about finding the right balance between enjoyment, relaxing, and livable interiors. Try these tips around the house and see if you don’t instantly feel like taking the day off to enjoy the fresh look of your home.

Wake Up Your Bedroom

The ultimate bedroom is the perfect blend of restful retreat and stylish sanctuary. While what’s beautiful and relaxing to each person differs, there are a few essential strategies that can help anyone create the bedroom of their dreams. Take your bedroom from blah to breathtaking with these easy updates.

Your bedroom can look as much or as little like the rest of your house as you want. Don’t feel limited to your current décor style. Sometimes a private space is a great place to try a new design aesthetic. Take a break from your traditional design roots and try on a more modern look with streamlined furnishings, solid color linens and minimal accessories. Or warm up your space by giving your contemporary style a rest and embracing more classic elements.

A gorgeous space originates by surrounding yourself with things you love. Begin with your favorite colors, finishes, and materials. Find a bed or headboard that speaks to you and layer on the most luxurious bed linens your budget will allow.

Choose one or two main colors and one or two accent colors, and stick with them throughout the room. If you want to incorporate patterns, select a dominant pattern and one or two supporting designs (of varying scale) for fabrics and bed linens. Want a crisp, clean look like that of a high-end hotel? Choose muted colors, high-quality cottons and stick to solids or subtle tone-on-tone patterns.

Give careful consideration to where you place your furnishings. Is everything visually balanced and within easy reach? Use lighting to illuminate your room and block out distracting outdoor lighting with drapery panels. Accent rugs protect hardwood floors while adding cushioning, warmth, and visual appeal.

Make your bedroom uniquely yours by adding personal touches. Display your favorite photos, accessories and mementos, yet limit your choices for maximum impact. Too many items can make a room feel cluttered and overwhelmed.

An easy way to ensure the long-term beauty of your newly designed bedroom is to banish clutter. Here’s how:

Fun Pumpkin Display Ideas from Miskelly Furniture

Courtesy of Southern Living

It’s finally autumn:  cooler weather, boots, jackets, football, and our favorite part… fall decorating and pumpkins galore. Miskelly Furniture has pulled together 10 fun pumpkin display ideas to decorate the interior and exterior of your home this fall. They’re fun, simple and will instantly transform your home to have that “fall-feel” you’re longing for.

1. Etch Your Pumpkins

Announce your address in style by cleverly etching your house number into a pumpkin. You can pile a combination of pumpkins on your front steps and carve your house number into the pumpkin of your choice. It’s a great way to personalize your pumpkin display on the front porch.

2. Let There Be Light

Make custom candleholders. Transform mini pumpkins into luminarias by cutting a 1-inch-wide circle into each pumpkin, scooping out the centers with a tablespoon, and inserting votive candles.

3. Blooming Pumpkin

To make this arrangement, gather your favorite plants/flowers to decorate. Clean the pumpkin and cut a hole in the top. Line with aluminum foil or a plastic bag, and fill it with potting soil and plants of your choice. We suggest incorporating violas and pansies for your blooming pumpkin.

4. Tiny Pumpkins Need Attention, Too

Group your favorite tiny pumpkins on a side table in your home. You can place them as you see fit, leaving a carefree touch to the collection. To bring the outdoors in, add pinecones and nuts.

5. Paint It!

Head to your local hardware store and pick up gold and black paint. Alternate painting black and gold on each section of the pumpkin. This is a stylish decor and very simple to do.

6. Spotty Pumpkins

Keep your gold paint on hand… gold metallic paint gives ordinary pumpkins a POP. Stick round labels on a pumpkin and trace the shape with a pencil. Remove the labels and paint inside the traced circles with gold paint.

7. Mix Colors

Don’t limit yourself to just traditional orange in your display. Orange and yellow pumpkins really pop when mixed with bright greens. Try using small green plants as well as gourds and squash with green tones.

Upholstery tacks will give plain white pumpkins a striking appearance. You can mix up the sizes and shapes of the tacks to create different patterns.

9. Traditional Pumpkin Mantel

Choose an assortment of small pumpkins and squash to place on your mantel. Bring in other items from around your home that you wouldn’t normally think to pair with pumpkins, like cups or books that complement the same basic color tones of the mantel.

10. Illuminating Pumpkin Display

Combine carved pumpkins and luminaries for a warm outdoor welcome. It’s easy to do and looks great from the street.
